Dr. Reece holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine, making him ideally suited to provide comprehensive medical care for athletes, sports teams, and active individuals who are looking to maintain a healthy lifestyle. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Practice and member of the American and Virginia Academy of Family Practice, the American Medical Society of Sports Medicine, and the American College of Sports Medicine.
Education
After earning a bachelor’s degree from Duke University, Dr. Reece received his Doctorate of Medicine with academic honors from the VCU School of Medicine. He then did his Internship at Wake Forest University Medical Center before returning to MCV/VCU to finish his Residency in Family Practice. He went on to the University of North Carolina Health System where he completed a Fellowship in Sports Medicine.
Career
Dr. Reece returned to Richmond in 2004 after serving as team physician for the University of Georgia. Other past positions in his wide range of experience in Sports Medicine include service as a team physician for several Richmond area high schools, the X-Games Summer Trials, the Richmond/Henrico County Open Golf Tournament (Nationwide Tour), the United States Olympic Swim Team (2000 Olympic Trials), Elon College, the Carolina Hurricanes (NHL), and the New York Yankees’ Single A affiliate Greensboro Bats. He also spent extensive time with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Atlanta Hawks of the NBA.
Appointments within the Richmond community include serving as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Family Practice at MCV/VCU, Assistant Company Physician to the Richmond Ballet, and team physician for St. Gertrude’s High School, Glen Allen High School, and Highland Springs High School. Â At Benedictine College Prep, Dr. Reece serves as both team physician and assistant varsity basketball coach for the 2011 VIS State Champion Cadets.
Awards and Publication
Dr. Reece continues to speak on current Sports Medicine issues at both local and national levels and has been published in several medical journals and texts.
