Dr. Hou joined Advanced Orthopaedic Centers in 2007 and specializes in Interventional Pain Medicine. This highly experienced physician uses injections and minimally invasive techniques to diagnose and treat painful conditions.  He is board certified in Pain Medicine through the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and through the American Board of Pain Medicine.

Education

Dr. Andrew Hou grew up in San Francisco and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley. After obtaining his Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular and Cell Biology, he attended the Medical College of Virginia, where he received his Doctorate in Medicine.  Dr. Hou continued his training at MCV by completing a four-year residency program in physical medicine and rehabilitation, followed by a fellowship in pain medicine.

Career

Prior to joining Advanced Orthopaedics, Dr. Hou was an attending physician in the Polytrauma Rehabilitation Center of Richmond’s Hunter-Holmes McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was also a disability examiner for the hospital. At MCV, he was a clinical instructor for a musculoskeletal course. Dr. Hou served as a contributing editor to Rehab in Review. In the late 1990s, he worked as an associate research scientist at Bayer Corporation in Berkley, CA, where he also served on the company’s emergency response team.

Awards and Publication

Dr. Hou has been published extensively and lectures on topics including pain management. Among his awards: the MCV Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinical Excellence Awards (2005, 2006), the 2002 MCV Department of Internal Medicine Outstanding Intern Award, and the 1998 Bayer Quality Excellence Award.
