Subspecialty

A member of the Spine Disorder Center, Dr. Adam Crowl performs nerve decompression surgery and fusion surgery to treat degenerative, congenital and traumatic disorders of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spines. The conditions he treats include spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, fractures of the spine, scoliosis and herniated disks.

Education

A native of western Maryland, Dr. Crowl pursued undergraduate education in Virginia’s James Madison University, where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. He completed his medical education at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, graduating with honors as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and Pathology Honor Society.

His post-graduate training included a General Surgical Internship and four-year Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at the University of Virginia. He also completed a Fellowship in Spine Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where he trained with some of the world’s leading authorities in both adult and pediatric spine surgery.

Career

Dr. Crowl joined Advanced Orthopaedics soon after his fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh. Prior to that, he tutored anatomy, pathology and neuroscience, and served as Assistant Instructor of Anatomy in the Minority Advancement Program at UVA.

Today, he is highly regarded as an expert in conditions of the spine.

Awards and Publication

Dr. Crowl has been widely published in peer-reviewed orthopaedic surgery and general surgery journals. He has presented his research at the national American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons meeting as well as the Eastern Orthopaedic Society and Virginia Orthopaedic Society meetings. He is involved with the North American Spine Society, the Cervical Spine Research Society, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Virginia Orthopaedic Society, and is a member of the Richmond Academy of Medicine.
